Hi all,
Well, I typed in the file path, aand voila, jaws is working on my moms computer, but by the time you answer this, I will be back on my computer.
wonderwoman
hmmm, then why post it. Sorry, I didn't mean to sound mean.
well, mikey, I think it's good to let someone know when something works as well as when something doesn't work. I was posting it especially for Kragil, since he told me what to do. You are not the boards police, and I'm with in my rights to post it if I want to, so if you don't care when something works, then you don't have to read it, and yes, that was rude.

I'm glad to hear you got it to work. I had read your other posts regarding your struggles. So now you have your choice of computers to use at home right?
Hi catlover, I won't really be using her computer, although she would let me have it if mine bit the dust, but we were just curious to see if it would work, and I wanted some assurence that jaws would work on another computer besides this premio computer of mine. She and I have different computing interests, and I wouldn't want to dump my stuff on her machine.

I like some things about moms computer better than mine, for instance, I love her tower. It's very slim, tall, where is mine is flat and heavy. I don't like her sound card though. Some sounds just don't work well. She use to play games, and all of a sudden, the sounds just quit working. There's the start up sound, way different than mine, and the shut down music, but it won't work with sounds on web pages, so I'm still not sure she has a multichannel sound card. Her menus in volume control are better than mine, but she's got this internet connection wizzard that keeps popping up when you turn the computer on, and when you put a disc in the cd rom drive. I hate it, but she doesn't know to keep it from coming up, and I don't know where to go to get rid of it, if there is a way to keep it from coming up.
wonderwoman
Well I'm sure there is a way to keep the wizzard from coming up beause I used to gt one in Microsoft Word and was told how to get rid of it. But I'm afraid I can't help with the internet wizzard because I don't know much about that sort of thing. But maybe someone else on here can help.
well, I don't think I'll be using her computer again, we were both just more or less curious, and I just wanted to play with it and see how jaws reacted to it, and I must say, after I typed in the command line, and the talking install came up, it did pretty good. I think the internet wizzard irritated me more than it did her. She says she can just flick it off.

hey WW, I would definitely ask around at different places (eg. mailing lists, and the zone boards) about those problems as there would certainly be solutions to all of them! Like regarding the sound card, which one is it? and is your Mum (mom to Americans sorry Lol :) using a dialup connection or broadband? what sort of computer is it? how old is it? Not that I will be able to help with all these questions but it's certainly info that would be valuable in order for someone to help you sort out those little issues. for example, you say the sounds don't work in internet explorer, it could be an option that needs to be turned back on in the multi-media settings in "advanced options" of the tools menu.
These are little probs that could be fixed. I have a single-channel sound card still in this five-year old computer but with the built in sound drivers in XP and 2000 and melenium, they do simulate a multi-channel sound card!
HTH :)
Hi Rachael,
Well, I didn't go in control pannel to see what kind of sound card it was, because the system info only tells you what kind of sound card it has, not whether or not it is a multimedia sound card. She is on a dial up connection, and we are both on the same isp. I didn't check her connection speed, but she has a 56 k modem, and although I think the dial up is getting slower, she is still in better shape than I am with that, because I have a 33.6 modem, but for the last several months, it's been holding at 28.8 k, and the last couple of days, it's been jumping up and down from 28.8 k to 26.400 k. Her computer is about 3 or 4 years old, can't remember how long she's had it. Would you believe she likes eloquence? ugh. Well, eloquence doesn't sound too bad for short things like moving around menus and things, but it's not good for long readings, short stories, novellas, novels and such. I'm married to flextalk, but if I get a new computer at some part, I may have to divorce my flextalk, and try to get use to eloquence. It just goes up and down too much.
wonderwoman
well you could still use your flextalk. jaws still supports i it I think. and woh 33 K moden! ah I remember them, Lol! well I hope you's can sort out problems soon because I am thinking your Mom would have a much more enjoyable experience on her computer if she could solve those little tedious issues. and i love eloquence btw! I'd use it if it were a hardwear synth :)
well, it's hard to describe how eloquence sounds to me, but I know it's great for people who don't have any other synthesizers, and can't afford them. As for my flextalk, when we first got the computer back in December 1997, we had to go through a dealer to get it set up, for one thing, we didn't know anything about computers, and there was no talking instillation cd, just 6 floppy discs, and he already had the computer set up with flextalk on it, and I don't have a flextalk cd. I have k1000 on this computer, but lost the original 3.5 cd I had, but I think I still have the 4.5 cd, which was shipped for free. Flextalk has to be on the computer before you can add it to the synthesizer list on the jaws cd. Honestly, he's not the greatest person to do business with, but he's the only jaws dealer we have. freedom scientific won't help you with flextalk, because they say it's not their product, but kurzweils product. I told our dealer this, and he said, oh they do too. Mom doesn't use her computer much.
